Kuumailmapuhdistus, also known as high-temperature cleaning or thermal cleaning, is a method used for cleaning various objects, particularly oven interiors, by exposing them to extremely high temperatures. This process is designed to break down and incinerate food residues, grease, and other organic contaminants that adhere to surfaces.

The core principle of kuumailmapuhdistus involves raising the oven's internal temperature significantly, often to between 400 and 500 degrees Celsius (750 to 930 degrees Fahrenheit). At these elevated temperatures, any food debris, burnt-on grease, and other organic matter are converted into ash. Once the cleaning cycle is complete and the oven has cooled down, the resulting ash can be easily wiped away with a damp cloth.

This cleaning method is commonly found in modern oven designs as a self-cleaning feature. While effective in removing stubborn grime, it requires a well-ventilated space due to the smoke and odors that can be produced during the high-heat process. Users are often advised to remove oven racks and any other accessories not designed for extreme heat before initiating the cycle. Safety precautions, such as ensuring children and pets are kept away from the appliance during and immediately after the cleaning, are also recommended.
