Kuitulevyiksi, often translated as fiberboard, is a type of engineered wood product manufactured from wood fibers. These fibers are typically derived from wood chips or sawdust, which are processed into a pulp. The pulping process involves breaking down the wood into its individual fibers, often using mechanical or chemical methods.

Once the fibers are prepared, they are mixed with a binder, which can be synthetic resins, natural starches, or other adhesives. This mixture is then pressed into sheets under high pressure and heat. The combination of pressure, heat, and the binder causes the wood fibers to bond together, forming a dense and uniform panel. The thickness and density of the fiberboard can vary depending on the manufacturing process and intended application.

There are several types of fiberboard, each with distinct properties and uses. Particleboard, also known as chipboard, is made from larger wood particles pressed together. Medium-density fiberboard (MDF) is a very common type, characterized by its smooth surface and uniform density, making it excellent for furniture and cabinetry. High-density fiberboard (HDF) is even denser and stronger than MDF. Hardboard is a type of fiberboard that is pressed to a higher density than MDF.

Fiberboard is widely used in construction and furniture manufacturing due to its versatility, cost-effectiveness, and stability. It serves as a substrate for veneers and laminates, as well as a component in cabinets, shelving, doors, and decorative panels.
