Krokbragd is a Norwegian flatweave rug technique characterized by its distinctive diagonal pattern. The name itself, meaning "crooked walk" or "crooked tread," refers to the staggered or offset arrangement of the warp threads, which creates the characteristic zigzag or chevron effect. This weaving method is traditionally done on a simple loom without a heddle.

The warp threads are typically wool, and a contrasting weft yarn, also often wool, is passed through the warp in a specific sequence to create the pattern. The weft yarns are not beaten down tightly in the traditional sense but are often left slightly looser, contributing to the rug's soft texture. The design is built by manipulating the shed, the opening between the raised and lowered warp threads, to create the diagonal lines.

Krokbragd weaving is known for its durability and relatively simple construction, making it an accessible technique for many weavers. Historically, it was a practical and decorative floor covering found in many Norwegian homes. While the traditional patterns are often geometric and monochromatic or feature a limited color palette, modern interpretations can incorporate a wider range of colors and more complex designs. The resulting fabric is reversible, meaning the pattern appears on both sides of the rug, although the colors will be reversed.
