Kristallfaserung, also known as crystal fiber or crystalline fiber, refers to the process of forming fibers with a highly ordered, crystalline structure. This process is commonly used in the production of high-performance materials such as carbon fibers, glass fibers, and ceramic fibers. The term "kristallfaserung" is derived from the German words "Kristall" meaning crystal, and "Faser" meaning fiber.

The process of kristallfaserung typically involves several steps. First, a precursor material, such as polyacrylonitrile (PAN) for carbon fibers or a glass melt for glass fibers, is prepared. This precursor is then spun into fibers using a spinning process, such as wet spinning or melt spinning. During this spinning process, the precursor fibers are stretched and aligned, promoting the formation of a crystalline structure.

The precursor fibers are then subjected to a heat treatment process, known as pyrolysis for carbon fibers or heat treatment for glass fibers. This process involves heating the fibers to high temperatures in the presence of an inert gas, such as nitrogen or argon. The heat treatment causes the precursor fibers to decompose and rearrange into a crystalline structure, resulting in the formation of the final fiber material.

Kristallfaserung is widely used in various industries, including aerospace, automotive, and sports equipment. The resulting fibers are known for their high strength-to-weight ratio, stiffness, and resistance to heat and chemicals.
