Krijesa is a traditional funeral ritual practiced in certain Albanian communities, particularly in Kosovo and parts of North Macedonia. The term "krijesa" generally refers to the burial ceremony and associated customs carried out to honor the deceased and facilitate their transition to the afterlife.

The process of krijesa typically begins with the preparation of the body, which includes washing and dressing the deceased in specific garments. The funeral rites often involve prayers, recitations from religious texts, and communal participation. In many cases, the deceased is placed in a coffin, and the funeral procession is led by family members and community members.

During the krijesa, it is customary for mourners to gather at the family's home or a designated funeral house before proceeding to the final resting place, often a local cemetery. Religious elements are integral to the ceremony, with Muslim communities incorporating Quran recitations and Christian communities including prayers and hymns.

The burial itself often follows specific customs that may vary by region but generally involve burial facing a particular direction, symbolizing spiritual orientation. After the burial, memorial services or "namaz" are sometimes held on specific days, such as the third, seventh, or fortieth day after death, to honor the deceased and support the grieving family.
