Koulutusjoukkoja refers to the different categories of educational institutions in Finland, each serving specific educational purposes and targeting different age groups. The term "koulutusjoukko" translates to "educational group" in English. The Finnish educational system is structured into four main koulutusjoukkoja: perusopetus, lukio, ammatillinen koulutus, and korkeakoulutus.

Perusopetus, or basic education, is mandatory for all children aged 7 to 16. It is divided into two main phases: perusaste (primary education) and lukioaste (secondary education). Perusopetus aims to provide a broad foundation in subjects such as mathematics, language, and social sciences, as well as develop essential skills like critical thinking and problem-solving.

Lukio, or upper secondary school, is also mandatory for all students aged 16 to 18. It focuses on preparing students for higher education or vocational training. Lukio offers a wide range of subjects and specializations, allowing students to tailor their education to their interests and career goals.

Ammatillinen koulutus, or vocational education, provides practical skills and knowledge for specific occupations. It is available for students aged 16 and above and can be pursued alongside or after perusopetus and lukio. Vocational education is divided into two main types: ammatillinen peruskoulutus (vocational basic education) and ammatillinen perustutkinto (vocational qualification).

Korkeakoulutus, or higher education, includes universities and universities of applied sciences. It is available for students aged 18 and above and offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. Higher education provides specialized knowledge and skills in various fields, preparing students for careers in research, academia, and industry.

In addition to these main koulutusjoukkoja, Finland also has specialized educational institutions such as music schools, art schools, and sports schools, which offer specialized training in their respective fields. These institutions cater to students with specific interests and talents, providing them with the opportunity to develop their skills and pursue their passions.
