Korviin are a genus of medium-sized, nocturnal birds native to the cloud forests of Lysara. In the world’s fauna, they are valued for their agile flight, iridescent plumage, and complex vocal repertoires. The term korviin derives from the Lysaran language, where it commonly denotes a night-time messenger of the forest.

They measure 26–34 cm in length and weigh 120–170 g. Plumage typically shifts from deep blue to bronze with light, and a modest crest sits atop the head. Korviin belong to a fictional order, Korviiformes, placed among forest-adapted passerines in the local taxonomy; genetic analyses in the setting suggest a divergence from related lineages in the distant past.

Korviin inhabit montane and cloud forests from 1,000 to 2,600 meters above sea level and are often found in mid- to upper-canopy layers. They feed primarily on insects, supplemented by berries and small fruits. Their foraging is characterized by swift sallies and recurring perch-hops through branches.

Behaviorally, korviin are mostly nocturnal, with peak activity at dusk and pre-dawn. They form small family groups and communicate with a repertoire of whistles, trills, and soft calls used for territory, courtship, and maintaining family bonds.

Breeding occurs in the early to mid-Lysaran spring. Nests are open cups built in forked branches. Clutch size is usually 2–3 eggs. Incubation lasts about 14–16 days, with fledging taking 20–28 days. Both parents share incubation and feeding duties.

Korviin contribute to forest ecology through insect control and seed dispersal. They are occasionally hunted for their iridescent plumage, but conservation status is generally stable in protected areas; ongoing habitat loss in some regions may threaten local populations. In Lysaran culture, korviin are regarded as omens of change and are featured in folk songs and rituals; feathers are used in ceremonial attire and instruments.
