Koristepintana is a Finnish architectural term referring to a decorative surface treatment applied to ceilings and, less often, to upper wall sections. It describes surfaces finished with painting, stucco relief, gilding, or other ornamental techniques intended to emphasize form, light, and space in interiors. In Finnish architectural literature it is used when documenting historic interiors, as well as in conservation plans and restoration projects.

Techniques and materials: Traditional koristepintana included lime-based plaster or stucco, with molded or deeply carved motifs, often gilded with gold leaf. Painted decorations used lime wash, oil-based pigments, or later synthetic paints. Trompe-l’oeil and faux finishes simulated architectural features like arches, panels, or marble veining.
