Konvulziyons, also known as seizures, are sudden, uncontrolled electrical disturbances in the brain. These disturbances can cause changes in behavior, movements, feelings, and even consciousness. They occur when a group of brain cells fire abnormally and excessively, disrupting normal brain function. The duration and intensity of a seizure can vary greatly from person to person and even from one seizure to another in the same individual.

There are many potential causes of konvulziyons. These can include genetic factors, brain injuries, infections, stroke, certain medications, and underlying neurological conditions such as epilepsy. Epilepsy is a disorder characterized by recurrent, unprovoked seizures. In some cases, the cause of konvulziyons may remain unknown, which is referred to as idiopathic epilepsy.

The experience of a konvulziyon can be diverse. Some seizures might involve obvious shaking of the limbs and loss of consciousness (generalized seizures), while others may be very subtle, causing brief staring spells or unusual sensations without any outward signs (focal seizures). Diagnosis typically involves a medical history, neurological examination, and often an electroencephalogram (EEG) to record brain activity. Treatment aims to control the seizures and improve quality of life, often through anti-seizure medications.
