Kompressiven is a German adjective derived from komprimieren, meaning relating to or causing compression. In technical and scientific contexts it describes forces, stresses, or states that tend to shorten, compact, or reduce the volume of a material or system. The term is used in disciplines such as engineering, physics, materials science, biomechanics, and geology to distinguish compressive effects from tensile or shear effects.

In German, kompressiv has different inflected forms. The form kompressiven appears in plural with a definite determiner, for example: die kompressiven Kräfte.
