Komponentfärger, often translated as component colors, refers to a method of color specification in digital graphics and printing where a color is defined by the values of its individual color components. The most common component color models are RGB and CMYK.

In the RGB model, a color is represented by the intensity of red, green, and blue light. Each component is typically assigned a value on a scale from 0 to 255, where 0 means no intensity and 255 means full intensity. For example, pure red is (255, 0, 0), pure green is (0, 255, 0), and pure blue is (0, 0, 255). White is achieved by combining all three components at their maximum value (255, 255, 255), and black is represented by all components at their minimum value (0, 0, 0). RGB is primarily used for displays, such as computer monitors and televisions, as these devices emit light.

In the CMYK model, a color is represented by the percentage of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black ink used in printing. These are subtractive colors, meaning they absorb certain wavelengths of light and reflect others. Pure cyan is (0, 100, 100, 0), pure magenta is (100, 0, 100, 0), and pure yellow is (100, 100, 0, 0). Black is represented by (0, 0, 0, 100). However, mixing all three subtractive colors often results in a muddy brown rather than a true black, hence the inclusion of black (K) for deeper blacks and to save on ink. CMYK is used in commercial printing processes.

The conversion between component color models is important for accurate color reproduction across different media. Understanding component colors is fundamental for graphic designers, web developers, and anyone working with digital or print media to ensure consistent and predictable color output.
