KnR, often written as K&R, refers to Brian W. Kernighan and Dennis M. Ritchie, two prominent computer scientists at Bell Labs whose work helped shape the C programming language and Unix. Their collaboration produced The C Programming Language, which became one of the most influential programming texts of its era and helped popularize C beyond Bell Labs’ environment.

The C Programming Language, first published in 1978 by Prentice-Hall, introduced C as a practical systems programming language and provided a concise, example-driven reference that guided many early programmers, especially on Unix-derived systems.
