The system works by monitoring the rotational speed of each wheel. If it detects that one or more wheels are spinning faster than the others, indicating a loss of traction, the kitkäsäätö system intervenes. This intervention can take several forms. It may reduce engine power being delivered to the driven wheels, or it might apply the brakes to the spinning wheel(s).
