A kiteboard is a board used in the sport of kiteboarding, where a rider is propelled across the water by a large controllable kite. The rider stands on a board, typically with foot straps or bindings, and steers by operating a bar connected to the kite with multiple lines. By controlling the kite’s power and angle, the rider can accelerate, ride upwind, jump, and perform tricks.

Equipment commonly used includes the kite (usually a leading-edge inflatable or bow design), a two- or four-line control bar, lines, and a board in a choice of shapes. The board is often a twin-tip, which can be ridden in either direction, while directional boards are used by more experienced riders. Protective gear such as impact vests, helmets, and a harness may be worn, and many riders use foot straps for stability. Proper maintenance and regular inspection of lines, bars, and kites are important for safety.

Technique centers on kite control and board edging. Riders steer the kite to generate propulsion and lift, while edging the board against the water helps control speed and direction. Upwind progression is a common goal, and jumps and tricks are developed with practice and experience. Lessons typically cover safety, wind window and weather awareness, self-rescue techniques, and basic maneuvers before advancing to more complex skills.

Competition and training exist at local, national, and international levels, with governing bodies establishing safety guidelines, equipment standards, and event formats. The sport has a diversified equipment market and is practiced in coastal and inland waters where suitable wind and space are available.
