Kidevirheet, often translated as crystal defects or lattice defects, are imperfections within the crystalline structure of a solid material. These deviations from the perfect, ordered arrangement of atoms or ions can significantly influence a material's physical and chemical properties, including its electrical conductivity, optical behavior, mechanical strength, and reactivity.

There are several types of kidevirheet. Point defects are the simplest and include vacancies, where an atom is missing from its lattice site; interstitials, where an extra atom occupies a position not normally part of the lattice; and substitutional impurities, where an atom of a different element replaces a host atom.
