Kastdelegationer, also known as castes or varnas, are a social stratification system found in some societies, particularly in India. The term originates from the Sanskrit word "kasta," meaning "caste." This system is characterized by a hierarchical division of society into distinct groups, each with its own roles, privileges, and restrictions.

The traditional Indian caste system is often divided into four main varnas: Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and Shudras. Brahmins are considered the priestly class, responsible for religious and spiritual matters. Kshatriyas are the warrior class, traditionally involved in governance and defense. Vaishyas are the merchant class, engaged in trade and commerce. Shudras are the laborer class, responsible for manual work and service.

Below these four varnas are the Dalits, also known as the untouchables, who are considered the lowest caste. Dalits are often marginalized and face significant discrimination and social exclusion. The caste system is deeply ingrained in Indian society and has historically influenced various aspects of life, including education, employment, and marriage.

Critics argue that the caste system perpetuates inequality and discrimination, while proponents maintain that it serves as a guide for social order and ethical behavior.
