järelevalvealased

Järelevalvealased (roughly translating to “persons under supervision”) is an Estonian term used in criminal law to describe individuals who remain under state supervision after a court decision, typically as part of probation or conditional release following imprisonment. The status denotes a non-custodial mode of oversight intended to balance rehabilitation with public safety.

Legal framework and scope: The concept exists within Estonian criminal law and related regulations governing probation and conditional release. Järelevalvealased may be placed under supervision as an alternative to imprisonment or as a post-release measure. The supervision is administered by designated authorities and is framed by conditions set by the court or supervising body, aimed at monitoring behavior and supporting reintegration.

Obligations and rights: Järelevalvealased must comply with the imposed conditions, which may include regular reporting, residence restrictions, prohibitions on certain activities, participation in rehabilitation or treatment programs, and meeting financial obligations such as restitution or fines.
