juurutavad

Juurutavad refers to a subset of chainsaws specifically designed for chain saw milling, which is a process of cutting logs into flat slabs for use in various applications such as flooring, paneling, and even guitar making. These specialized chainsaws are equipped with longer guide bars and specially designed chains with alternate top-cutting and bottom-cutting teeth that enable efficient cutting of wood at a slope.

The name "juurutavad" translates to "cutters" or more accurately "lathe cutters" in English, but the term is commonly used in Estonia and Germany to describe these specialized tools. The machines themselves have evolved from conventional chainsaws, but with key design modifications to allow them to accurately cut large logs into flat sections.

One of the primary advantages of using juurutavad for chain saw milling is that they allow log owners to cut high-value wood into usable slabs in situ. This not only saves on transportation costs, but it also reduces waste by cutting logs only where necessary.

Risks associated with juurutavad come primarily from the operating hazards common to any type of chainsaw. Log blanks move unpredictably, causing vibrations which may cause loss of control, and the physical exhaustion entailed in operating the machines for extended periods requires continuous attention.
