Jigsaw is a term with multiple meanings. In puzzles, a jigsaw refers to a type of interlocking puzzle consisting of numerous irregularly shaped pieces that can be assembled to form a complete image. The concept arose as a cut-piece puzzle where a simple picture was cut into small shapes, encouraging problem-solving and hand-eye coordination. Today the term is widely used for cardboard or wooden puzzles of various sizes and difficulties.

Jigsaw also denotes a hand-held power tool used to cut curves and complex shapes in wood, metal, or plastic. The tool uses a thin, reciprocating blade mounted in a compact body with an adjustable base (shoe) that rests on the workpiece. By changing blades and adjusting speed, a jigsaw can produce straight or curved cuts, often with an orbital action to roughen cuts. Safety features may include blade guards, dampers, and a dust collection port.

In popular culture, Jigsaw is the alias of John Kramer, a fictional killer and mastermind in the Saw film franchise. Introduced as a person who designs lethal traps to test his victims' will to live, his character has appeared in multiple films and media, sometimes as a mastermind behind the traps or as an influence on others who imitate his philosophy.

Additionally, the term has been used in education to describe the Jigsaw classroom, a cooperative learning technique developed by social psychologist Elliot Aronson in the 1970s.
