Jakokeskus is a Finnish term for a distribution board or panel in electrical engineering. It is an enclosure that distributes electrical power from a main supply to multiple branch circuits and provides protection for those circuits, typically through fuses or circuit breakers. In Finnish usage, the illative form jakokeskukseen means “to the distribution board,” reflecting how circuits and conductors are connected to the panel.

A jakokeskus generally contains the main incoming circuit, busbars for distributing power, and protective devices such as circuit breakers or fuses. It may also include residual-current devices (RCDs or RCBOs), terminal blocks for wiring, and labeling to identify each circuit. The enclosure is designed to be weather- and tamper-resistant to varying degrees, depending on the installation environment, and is often mounted in a dedicated electrical cabinet or wall recess.

There are different types of jakokeskukset. Residential installations typically use smaller, modular distribution boards with a limited number of poles and simple protection schemes. Industrial or commercial applications require larger or more modular boards, with numerous circuits, advanced protection, and sometimes automation components such as contactors or monitoring modules. The choice depends on the total load, circuit count, and the required level of safety and control.

Installation and maintenance should be performed by a qualified electrician and comply with local electrical codes and standards, such as those in the EN 61439 family and Finnish regulations.
