Isotoseparasjon refers to the process of separating isotopes of a chemical element. Isotopes are atoms of the same element that have the same number of protons but different numbers of neutrons, resulting in different atomic masses. This mass difference, though small, is the basis for most separation techniques.

Various methods are employed for isotoseparasjon, with the choice often depending on the element, the desired degree of enrichment, and economic factors. Gaseous diffusion was historically significant, particularly for uranium enrichment, where uranium hexafluoride gas is passed through porous membranes, with lighter isotopes diffusing slightly faster.

Laser-induced separation, a more modern technique, uses lasers tuned to specific isotopic frequencies to excite and then separate isotopes, offering high selectivity.
