Inzamelingrecycling is the integrated system for collecting recyclable materials from consumers and organizations and transforming them into raw materials for new products. In Dutch-speaking waste-management discourse, the term encompasses both the collection infrastructure and the recycling value chain, from separation of materials at the source to processing in material recovery facilities.

Collection systems vary: curbside, door-to-door, community bring sites, and deposit-return schemes. Some systems use single-stream collection, others require source-separated streams (paper, plastic, glass, metal, organics). Collection frequency and coverage influence contamination and recovery rates. Public authorities often regulate collection through municipal ordinances, while private companies may operate services under contract or franchise models.

After collection, materials are transported to sorting facilities where impurities are removed and items are directed into material streams. Sorting uses manual and automated methods (manual picking, optical sorters, magnets, eddy current). Processed bales are shipped to manufacturers and reprocessed into feedstocks used in plastics, metals, glass, paper, and organics recycling.

Policy and governance: many countries implement waste-management frameworks that combine collection obligations, recycling targets, and producer responsibility schemes. Pay-as-you-throw pricing, recycling credits, and public education campaigns are common tools to improve participation and reduce contamination.

Impact and challenges: while inzamelingrecycling reduces landfill use, lowers virgin-material extraction, and saves energy, effectiveness depends on high-quality source separation and stable markets for recyclates. Contamination, fluctuating commodity prices, and logistics costs pose ongoing challenges.
