intrbitis

Intrbitis is not a standard medical term in ophthalmology and is likely a misspelling or rare variant of iritis, the inflammation of the iris. In common usage, iritis is often considered a form of anterior uveitis, involving the front part of the uveal tract.

Symptoms typically include eye pain, redness, photophobia, and blurred vision. The pupil may be constricted or irregular, and there can be sensitivity to light. On examination, the anterior chamber often contains cells and flare, indicating inflammation.

Causes are varied and may be infectious, autoimmune, or idiopathic. Infections such as herpes simplex or herpes zoster, syphilis, and tuberculosis can trigger anterior uveitis, while autoimmune diseases such as ankylosing spondylitis, psoriasis, or inflammatory bowel disease are common associations, especially in recurrent cases.

Diagnosis is based on clinical examination by an eye care professional, aided by slit-lamp examination to assess cells, flare, and signs of synechiae. Additional workup may include laboratory testing for infectious or systemic diseases if indicated by history or age.

Treatment emphasizes reducing inflammation and preventing complications. This typically involves topical corticosteroids and cycloplegic eye drops to relieve pain, dilate the pupil, and prevent adhesions; more severe cases may require periocular or systemic steroids, immunomodulatory therapy, or treatment of an underlying condition. Most cases improve with prompt treatment but can recur.
