Intraphase is a term used in materials science, thermodynamics, and related fields to describe phenomena or processes that occur entirely within a single phase of a material system, such as within a solid, liquid, or gas. It contrasts with interphase processes, which take place at interfaces between different phases or across phase boundaries. The intraphase focus is on the interior properties, composition, and behavior of a phase, rather than on the interfaces or transitions between phases.

Within a single phase, intraphase processes can include diffusion or transport of species, chemical reactions, microstructural evolution, and the development of compositional inhomogeneities that do not require the creation of new phase boundaries. Examples in metallurgy include intraphase diffusion within a solid solution, intraphase zoning or segmentation inside a crystal, and intraphase precipitation that occurs without forming a distinct second-phase boundary. In polymers and geoscience, intraphase processes similarly refer to changes that occur inside a homogeneous region of matter.

The term is most common in specialized or technical literature and is used to emphasize interior-phase phenomena as distinct from those occurring at interfaces. It helps describe how properties such as diffusion rates, strength, conductivity, or optical characteristics can be influenced by events that happen within a phase, independent of interfacial effects.
