An injektionsenhed, often translated as injection unit, is a fundamental component in many industrial processes, particularly in the manufacturing of plastics, rubber, and other moldable materials. Its primary function is to melt and then inject molten material into a mold cavity under pressure. This process is a core element of injection molding, a widely used technique for producing complex shapes with high precision and consistency.

The typical injection unit consists of several key parts. A hopper feeds raw material, usually in granular or pellet form, into a barrel. Inside the barrel, a rotating screw mechanism plays a crucial role. As the screw rotates, it conveys the material forward, simultaneously heating it through external heaters and friction. This heat softens and melts the material, transforming it into a homogeneous, viscous liquid. Once a sufficient amount of molten material has accumulated at the front of the screw, the screw itself then acts as a plunger. It rapidly advances, pushing the molten material through a nozzle and into the closed mold. The pressure applied during this stage is critical for ensuring the mold is completely filled and that the final product has the desired density and structural integrity. After injection, the screw retracts, and the material within the mold cools and solidifies, after which the mold opens to eject the finished part. The cycle then repeats. The design and specifications of an injektionsenhed, such as screw diameter, length, and injection pressure capabilities, are tailored to the specific material being processed and the size and complexity of the parts being manufactured.
