Ilmeneet, also known as ilmenite, is a titanium-iron oxide mineral with the chemical formula FeTiO3. The titanium is extracted through a process called the Kroll process, which involves chlorinating the ilmenite to produce titanium tetrachloride, followed by reduction with magnesium to produce metallic titanium.
