Mild cases may include headache, dizziness, and shortness of breath, while severe cases can lead to confusion, loss of consciousness, and even death. Early recognition and treatment of hypoxia are crucial to prevent complications and ensure proper oxygenation of the body's tissues.

Treatment for hypoxia depends on the underlying cause. For hypoxemic hypoxia, descending to a lower altitude or using supplemental oxygen can be effective. In cases of ischemic hypoxia, addressing the underlying cardiovascular or respiratory condition is essential. In severe cases, mechanical ventilation or other life-support measures may be necessary. Regular monitoring of oxygen levels and prompt intervention are key to managing hypoxia and preventing its adverse effects.
