Characteristics commonly associated with hypersthenic individuals include a broad chest, wide pelvis, short limbs relative to height, and a higher body mass index. Fat and muscle distribution can vary, but the overall contour is generally more robust and compact than in asthenic individuals. This classification is not a measure of health or fitness but describes anatomical proportions that can influence imaging, clinical assessment, and ergonomics.

In medical imaging and radiology, hypersthenic habitus affects projection selection, field size, and exposure settings. Radiologic protocols may require adjustments to accommodate a thicker chest or abdomen, ensuring adequate penetration and diagnostic quality. For example, chest radiographs might use alternative projections or wider image fields, and abdominal studies may involve different exposure approaches to account for increased tissue thickness.
