This allows simultaneous capture of spectral content, spatial structure, temporal evolution, and potentially polarization state, enabling richer interpretation than static hyperspectral cubes.

Origins and status. The term appears in speculative discussions about advanced spectral imaging and multi-modal sensing. There is no universally adopted standard or widely deployed technology for hyeperspectrales; the concept remains experimental and primarily of interest in research settings exploring higher-dimensional data fusion and analysis.

Acquisition and processing. Data can be obtained by augmenting traditional hyperspectral sensors with time-resolved measurements and polarization capabilities, or by fusing outputs from separate sensors. Analysis relies on tensor-based methods such as tensor decompositions and higher-order unmixing, along with machine learning models designed for multi-dimensional data. These approaches focus on denoising, compression, and the extraction of coherent spatio-spectral-temporal patterns.
