The animal has strong, clawed limbs suited to rocky slopes and a keen sense of smell and hearing.

Hvatberar are said to occur across the highlands of the fictional continent of Eldoria, occupying mossy forests, scree slopes, and bogs at elevations roughly 1,100 to 2,400 meters. They prefer fragmented habitat with cover such as low shrubs and fallen logs, which provide shelter from wind and predators.
