Hovedforløb, meaning "main course" in Danish, is the main phase of Denmark's vocational education and training (erhvervsuddannelse). It follows the grundforløb (foundation course) and is designed to provide both practical training in a company and theoretical instruction at vocational schools. The program prepares students to become skilled tradespersons in a specified profession.

The main course is delivered as a combination of school-based teaching and work-based learning in an approved company. The proportion of school versus work can vary by program, but most hovedforløb courses span about two to three years and involve alternating periods of study and on-the-job training. The curriculum covers professional skills, safety, and general education components required for the trade.

At the end of the hovedforløb, students sit the svendeprøve (journeyman's examination). A successful svendeprøve awards the svendebrev, enabling the graduate to practise the trade independently. Some graduates may continue with additional training, specialized courses, or broader education pathways, while others move directly into employment.

Common trades offered under the hovedforløb include carpentry (snedker), electrical installation (elektriker), plumbing and heating (VVS-installatør), bricklaying (murer), and automotive service technician. The exact trades available depend on regional education offerings and industry partnerships.
