In project management the hoofdfase typically encompasses core design, development, or execution activities, and is usually scheduled after initial feasibility or planning work and before evaluation or completion. It often involves the largest share of resources, coordination across teams, and the achievement of its primary deliverables.

Examples: In construction, the hoofdfase might be the execution stage where construction work takes place. In software development, it can refer to the main development and integration cycle. In research, the hoofdfase may cover data collection and analysis that form the backbone of results.
