Historyvary is a term used in historiography and digital humanities to denote the study of variation in historical narratives across sources, cultures, and media. It focuses on how different accounts of the same events converge or diverge, depending on author perspective, audience, purpose, and time of writing.

Scholars employing historyvary use comparative, discourse-analytic, and quantitative methods to map differences in emphasis, interpretation, and omissions. Core activities include contrasting primary sources, secondary syntheses, and popular media; examining framing, causation models, and use of categories; and tracking how translations, editions, or performances alter meaning. Digital tools such as text mining, topic modeling, network analysis, and visualization help reveal patterns of variation at scale.

Applications include assessing historical debates, evaluating national memory regimes, informing education and public history, and identifying biases or propaganda. It also aids in designing more nuanced curricula and museums that present multiple perspectives. Limitations involve subjectivity in interpretation, uneven source availability, and challenges of cross-cultural comparison, especially across languages and genres.
