Hisobdorlik is a term used in Uzbek to denote accountability or responsibility. It refers to the obligation to account for one’s actions, report results, and accept consequences. The concept combines hisob (account, reckoning) with dor (having) and lik (a suffix forming a noun). In governance, hisobdorlik signifies that public officials and institutions are answerable to citizens, subject to laws, and expected to provide transparent information about budgets, expenditures, and program outcomes. It is closely linked with transparency, the rule of law, and good governance.

In practice, hisobdorlik is achieved through mechanisms such as independent audits, annual financial and performance reports, oversight bodies, procurement scrutiny, and internal controls. In the corporate sector, it underpins corporate governance, requiring managers to disclose financial information and justify decisions to shareholders and regulators. In civil society, it supports anti-corruption efforts and citizen oversight by enabling public scrutiny of government programs and concessions.

Challenges to hisobdorlik include weak institutions, political interference, limited access to information, and insufficient enforcement of rules. When effective, hisobdorlik can improve policy outcomes, enhance the efficient use of public resources, and strengthen trust in institutions. The concept is a common feature of reform discourse in Uzbek-speaking contexts and is often discussed alongside related ideas such as ochiqlik (transparency) and hisobot (report).
