Highbrightness is a term used to describe the property of a light source, display, or illuminated surface to emit or reflect a significant amount of visible light. It is functionally synonymous with high luminance, measured in units such as candelas per square meter (cd/m²), also known as nits. This characteristic is crucial in environments with high levels of ambient light.

The primary application of highbrightness technology is in outdoor electronic displays. Devices like digital billboards, information signs at stadiums, and screens used in sunlight must possess highbrightness to remain clearly visible. Similarly, projectors used in well-lit rooms require high lumen output, a related measure of brightness, to produce a viewable image.

In consumer electronics, highbrightness is a key feature for smartphones, tablets, and laptop screens. It allows for comfortable use outdoors without the need to shade the display. Highbrightness LEDs have also revolutionized general and specialized lighting, offering powerful illumination for applications ranging from automotive headlights to architectural lighting and industrial work lights.

A challenge associated with highbrightness is increased power consumption. To manage this, many devices incorporate ambient light sensors that automatically adjust the screen's brightness to a sufficient level, thus conserving energy.
