hexagram

A hexagram is a geometric figure formed by overlaying two equilateral triangles of the same size, producing a six-pointed star. The two triangles point in opposite directions, creating a symmetric outline with six outer points and a regular hexagon at the center. In geometry it is commonly described as a compound of two triangles.

Beyond geometry, the hexagram has carried a range of symbolic meanings. It is best known as the Star of David, a symbol strongly associated with Judaism and the Jewish people. On the flag of Israel and in various religious objects, the hexagram functions as an emblem of identity and heritage. In other esoteric and magical traditions, the hexagram is used as a protective or harmonizing symbol, sometimes interpreted as the union of opposites—such as heaven and earth, or masculine and feminine.

Historically the motif appears in diverse cultures and periods, appearing in decorative arts, architecture, and heraldry. Although commonly linked to Jewish tradition in modern times, the geometric form predates this association and can be found in non-Jewish contexts as well.
