Hergezogen is the past participle of the German verb herziehen, formed with the prefix her- that indicates movement toward a reference point, typically toward the speaker or toward a mentioned place, combined with ziehen (to pull or move). The term is used in two broad senses: a literal relocation and a figurative drawing or attraction of people or resources to a place.

In a literal sense, hergezogen describes moving one’s residence or position to a new location. Common constructions express relocation to another city or region: Er ist von Berlin nach München hergezogen, or more explicitly Er ist hierhergezogen. The perfect tense uses sein: Er ist hierhergezogen. In transitive use, meaning to physically pull someone or something toward a location, the auxiliary can be haben: Ich habe ihn hierhergezogen.

In a figurative sense, hergezogen can denote that a place or group attracts people. People speak of towns, neighborhoods, or institutions that "herziehen" neue Bewohner, Touristen oder Arbeitskräfte. A person can also say, Die Stadt hat viele Neubürger hergezogen; or Viele Künstler sind hierhergezogen.

Grammatical notes: for movement toward the speaker or a place, the form often appears with hierher or hierhin and with sein in the perfect tense. When used in a literal, transitive sense (pulling someone or something toward), it takes haben. Variants include hierhergezogen written as one word or spaced as hierher gezogen, with the meaning largely the same.
