Hepatopathies encompass a broad range of diseases affecting the liver. The liver, a vital organ, performs numerous crucial functions including detoxification, protein synthesis, and the production of biochemicals necessary for digestion. Advanced liver disease can lead to hepatic encephalopathy, a neurological disorder caused by the buildup of toxins in the bloodstream.

Diagnosis typically involves a combination of medical history, physical examination, blood tests to assess liver function and detect viral markers, imaging studies like ultrasound or CT scans, and sometimes a liver biopsy for definitive diagnosis.

Treatment strategies are tailored to the specific hepatopathy and may include antiviral medications, immunosuppressants, lifestyle modifications such as dietary changes and alcohol cessation, and in severe cases, liver transplantation. Early detection and management are key to improving outcomes for individuals with liver disease.
