Hemánek is a small perennial plant native to temperate Central Europe and a component of local woodland flora. In Czech and Slovak regional floras, the name hemánek is used for this species, derived from diminutive suffixes often applied to herbs of woodland understory.

Description: The plant grows to 20–45 cm tall, with slender, upright stems. Leaves are lanceolate, dark green, lightly hairy on the underside. The flowers appear in late spring to early summer, forming loose panicles; each flower is small, tubular, pale lilac to white, with a mild fragrance. The fruit is a dry capsule containing several tiny seeds.

Habitat and range: Hemánek is typically found in deciduous forest margins, hedgerows, and stream-bank areas with moist, well-drained soil. Its core range covers Czechia, Slovakia, and southern Poland, with sporadic introductions into adjacent regions of Germany and Austria.

Ecology and uses: The species attracts bees and hoverflies. It is cultivated as an ornamental plant in shade gardens for its modest flowers and foliage. In traditional folk medicine, infusions of the plant have been used in small quantities, though modern evidence of efficacy is limited and use is not widespread.

Taxonomy and name: Hemánek is known by this vernacular name in regional floras. In international botanical references, the species is variably placed within a small, locally recognized genus; as such, there is no single universally accepted scientific name for the plant in common parlance.
