Hemoroidet, also known as piles, are swollen veins in the anus and lower rectum. Hemorrhoids can be internal, located inside the rectum, or external, located under the skin around the anus.

Symptoms of hemorrhoids vary depending on their type and severity. Internal hemorrhoids may not cause pain but can lead to bleeding during bowel movements, often noticed as bright red blood on toilet paper or in the toilet bowl. External hemorrhoids can be more uncomfortable and may cause itching, irritation, pain, and swelling around the anus. In some cases, blood clots can form in external hemorrhoids, leading to a painful condition called a thrombosed hemorrhoid.

Diagnosis is typically made through a physical examination by a healthcare professional. For internal hemorrhoids, a digital rectal exam or an anoscopy might be performed. Treatment for hemorrhoids aims to relieve symptoms and prevent recurrence. Lifestyle changes such as increasing dietary fiber intake, drinking plenty of fluids, and avoiding straining during bowel movements are often recommended. Over-the-counter creams, ointments, and suppositories can help alleviate itching and pain. In more severe cases, medical procedures like rubber band ligation, sclerotherapy, or surgery may be considered.
