Helprotes, or full dentures, are removable dental prostheses that replace all natural teeth in one or both jaws. A maxillary helprotes replaces the upper teeth, while a mandibular helprotes replaces the lower teeth. The prosthesis rests on the mucosa and relies on tissue support, suction, and, in some cases, implants or denture adhesive for retention.

There are two main types. Conventional complete dentures are fabricated after all teeth have been extracted and the tissues have healed. Immediate complete dentures are placed at the time of tooth extraction, using a preliminary impression and a trial setup to reduce the period without teeth. In some cases, implant-supported full-arch prostheses are used to improve stability and function, particularly in the presence of reduced denture retention or after significant bone loss.

Fabrication involves several steps. An initial impression is taken to create a diagnostic model, followed by a more accurate final impression to capture tissue details. Jaw relations are recorded to establish vertical dimension and centric relation. A wax try-in with artificial teeth allows verification of aesthetics and bite before processing in heat-cured resin. The final denture is finished, polished, and delivered to the patient, who receives instructions on use and care.

Materials commonly include an acrylic resin base with artificial teeth made of acrylic or sometimes porcelain. Flexible denture bases and metal-reinforced designs are used in specific cases. Care involves regular cleaning, removing the denture at night, and periodic professional adjustments or relines to compensate for ongoing tissue changes and wear.

Advantages include restoration of chewing ability and facial aesthetics; limitations involve changes in fit over time due to jawbone resorption and the need for periodic adjustments or replacements.
