Harhakuviot, often translated as illusion patterns or phosphenes, are subjective visual phenomena perceived in the absence of actual external light stimuli. These are not hallucinations in the clinical sense, but rather the brain's interpretation of random neural activity within the visual system. They can manifest as a variety of forms, including geometric shapes, swirling colors, flashes of light, or even faint outlines of objects.

The exact causes of harhakuviot are not fully understood, but several factors are believed to contribute to their occurrence. These can include pressure on the eyeballs, such as when rubbing one's eyes, which stimulates the retina and optic nerve. Changes in blood flow to the retina or brain can also trigger these visual experiences. Fatigue, stress, and certain medications are also commonly associated with an increase in the frequency or intensity of harhakuviot.

While generally benign and a normal physiological occurrence for many individuals, persistent or unusual harhakuviot that appear without apparent cause could warrant medical attention.
