This creates a strong and durable fabric with a balanced appearance.

Another common grundvævstype is the twill weave. Twills are characterized by diagonal lines or ribs on the fabric's surface. This is achieved by offsetting the interlacing points of the weft and warp threads in successive rows. The diagonal pattern can vary in steepness and direction, leading to different types of twills such as right-hand twill or left-hand twill.

The satin weave is a third fundamental grundvævstype. In a satin weave, the weft or warp threads float over multiple threads before interlacing with another. This creates a smooth, lustrous surface with fewer interlacings, making the fabric appear more fluid and shiny. The long floats are responsible for the characteristic sheen of satin fabrics. These three basic weaves – plain, twill, and satin – form the foundation for a vast array of textile structures, with variations and combinations leading to more complex patterns and textures.
