A grillrooster (Dutch for grill grate or grill rack) is a metal grid used to support food above a heat source for grilling, broiling or roasting. It forms the cooking surface in barbeque grills, broilers and some oven units, allowing direct exposure to heat while permitting fats and juices to drip away.

Grillroosters are manufactured from a variety of materials, including stainless steel, cast iron, chrome-plated steel, aluminium and porcelain-coated steel. Each material has different thermal properties: cast iron retains and distributes heat well and develops seasoning, while stainless steel resists corrosion and is easier to clean. Coatings may improve non-stick performance but can be sensitive to high heat or abrasive cleaning.

Designs vary by shape, size and bar arrangement. Common types include rod or wire grids, solid-surface grates with slots, hinged sections for adding fuel, and removable or adjustable racks for height control. Some roosters incorporate features such as integrated grease channels, warming racks, or compatibility with rotisserie attachments.

Maintenance practices include regular cleaning to remove residues, seasoning of cast-iron surfaces to prevent rust and prolong non-stick qualities, and inspection for corrosion or coating damage. Safe use requires handling hot grates with appropriate tools or gloves and avoiding rapid temperature changes that can warp materials or damage coatings. At end of life, metal roosters are typically recyclable.
