granitien

Granitien is a rare silicate mineral described from granitic rocks and pegmatites. It is named for its association with granite and granitic environments and is sometimes referenced in regional geological surveys as a model for late-stage crystallization in granitic magmas.

Granitien typically appears as small, translucent to opaque crystals with a vitreous luster. Color ranges from pale gray and pink to greenish, and crystals are usually coarse-grained when found in pegmatites. It has a relatively high hardness (around 6 on the Mohs scale) and a white to pale streak. Cleavage is weak or indistinct, and fracture is irregular.
