Golfplaten, or corrugated metal sheets, are thin sheets with a repeating wave or corrugation used for roofing and wall cladding. They are typically made of galvanized steel, but may also be aluminum, stainless steel, or coated steels with protective finishes such as polyester or PVDF. The corrugated profile increases the sheet’s stiffness, allowing longer spans with lighter material. Thickness and profile vary by supplier and application.

Common applications include agricultural buildings, industrial sheds, warehouses, carports, and other outbuildings, as well as retrofit projects and lightweight fences. They are installed by attaching the sheets to a substructure of timber or metal purlins, using self-drilling screws or nails with sealing washers. Joints are overlapped to shed water, and protective coatings help with corrosion resistance. The surface can be finished in a range of colours.

Advantages of golfplaten include low cost, light weight, ease of handling and installation, and good durability in many climates. They require relatively little maintenance and can be recycled. Disadvantages include limited suitability for high-end living spaces due to acoustic and thermal properties, potential noise in rain, and susceptibility to corrosion if coatings are damaged or if the wrong material is chosen for the environment. Long spans require adequate support and careful installation to avoid leaks or deformation.

In older constructions, some corrugated sheets were made of asbestos cement; modern golfplaten are typically steel or aluminum and asbestos-free. Regular inspection and cleaning help extend life, and damaged sections should be replaced rather than repaired.
