These traditions were deeply intertwined with shamanistic beliefs and ritualistic practices, where individuals—often referred to as *godsägare* (god-speakers)—claimed to receive visions or prophecies through altered states of consciousness, induced by fasting, drumming, or hallucinogenic substances.
