Glansig is a Swedish adjective used to describe a surface that has a glossy, high-reflectivity finish. The term stems from glans, meaning shine or luster, combined with the suffix -ig, which denotes characteristics. In everyday language it is used for everything from paint to textiles to indicate a bright, mirror-like effect. Glansig is the opposite of mat (matte) or halvmat.

In design, manufacturing, and consumer products, a glansig finish is chosen to enhance color richness, contrast, and perceived quality. It is common on paints and coatings, glossy paper and photo stock, plastics, ceramics, and metal surfaces. While it creates a vivid appearance, glansig surfaces reflect more light and can reveal flaws and fingerprints more readily than matte finishes. They also tend to be less forgiving in nonuniform lighting because reflections can obscure texture.

Gloss levels are often described in gloss units (GU) or equivalent measures, with glansig finishes typically in the higher end of the scale. Care for glansig surfaces usually involves gentle cleaning with microfiber cloths and appropriate cleaners, avoiding abrasive materials that can scratch the finish. The choice between glansig and other finishes depends on desired aesthetics, durability, and maintenance requirements.
