The nominal composition of geostrofiset is described as a germanium–silicate framework in which GeO4 tetrahedra form two-dimensional sheets that are interleaved with silicon-containing layers. The structure may accommodate substitution by silicon and by divalent cations such as calcium or sodium, with water or other volatiles occupying interlayer spaces. The overall formula is variable but commonly cited as GeSi2O7 with interlayer modifiers.

Geostrofiset is described as a medium- to low-density mineral with a transparent to translucent habit. Hardness is placed about 5.5–6 on the Mohs scale; it is said to have a vitreous luster and a pale green to gray color. Cleavage is typically basal, and refractive index is estimated around 1.72–1.80, with optic character described as biaxial positive. No commercial uses are recognized because the mineral remains hypothetical.

In thought experiments, geostrofiset is proposed to form under high-pressure, low-temperature metamorphism typical of subduction zones, within metamorphosed ultramafic or carbonate-rich rocks. Its distribution is predicted to be extremely rare, requiring precise geochemical conditions and crystallization to stabilize the twisted lattice.

Etymology and taxonomy: the name combines geo- meaning earth with strophe, denoting a proposed twisting of its lattice. In taxonomy, geostrofiset is not assigned to an established mineral group but is discussed alongside layered silicates and tectosilicates in illustrative contexts.
