Two main subtypes are often discussed: transparent geantwoorde, where the meaning of the whole is easily inferred from the parts (for example, bookshop, lighthouse); and opaque geantwoorde, where the overall sense is not readily predictable from the constituents (for instance, butterfly, skyscraper).
